Mamdani to Reinstitute Homeless Encampment Sweeps

Mayor Zohran Mamdani will place the Department of Homeless Services in charge of the sweeps, replacing the Police Department as leader of the interagency efforts.Public officials, including some Democratic City Council members, have raised concerns that the number of homeless encampments has risen since Mayor Zohran Mamdani took office.
